What Is a Stove Chamber?
If you are planning a wood-burning or multi-fuel stove, you may have come across the term stove chamber. It is one of those parts of a stove installation that often gets overlooked at first, but it can make a big difference to the finished look.
A stove chamber is the set of panels fitted inside the fireplace opening behind and around the stove. It creates a clean backdrop for the appliance, helps define the opening, and gives the installation a more complete and finished appearance.

What Does a Stove Chamber Do?
In simple terms, a stove chamber sits inside the recess behind the stove and forms the visible surround within the opening. Rather than leaving exposed masonry or a plain interior, the chamber gives you a more intentional, designed finish.
Stove chambers are commonly chosen as part of a full stove installation because they can:
- Create a neater, more complete backdrop for the stove
- Help frame the appliance within the fireplace opening
- Add texture, colour or contrast to suit the room style
- Provide an alternative to a plain rendered recess
They are usually selected alongside the stove itself, rather than as a standalone purchase, as part of deciding how the overall installation will look once complete.
How Are Stove Chambers Supplied?
Many stove chambers are supplied as a 3-piece set, made up of one back panel and two side panels. This allows them to line the inside of a standard fireplace opening and create a uniform finish around the stove.
On a number of the chamber products now on our site, the standard panel sizes are:
- Back panel: 1015mm wide x 1000mm high x 30mm thick
- Side panels: 450mm wide x 1000mm high x 30mm thick
Made-to-measure options may also be available if you are working with a different opening size or a more bespoke installation.
What Styles Are Available?
One of the main reasons people choose a stove chamber is the variety of finishes available. Depending on the look you want, you can go for a more traditional brick effect, a rustic style, or something darker and more contemporary.
Some of the styles now available on our website include:
- Brick-effect finishes such as Cobbled Red Brick, Rustic Brick, Pompeii Brick and Rainbow Brick
- More contemporary colours such as Dove Grey, Sunset Red, Lume Blue and Urban Dusk Brick
